Travel Guide: Phoenix, Arizona

A few weeks ago, 3 girlfriends and I decided to venture on a weekend trip to Phoenix! Being in LA, we're always so eager to travel far outside of LA, forgetting about the little gem cities that are just a couple of hours outside of where we live. We had all heard such amazing things about Phoenix and had it our our list, so we figured WHY NOT!? We booked cheap flights on Southwest and we were off! We debated for a long time between staying at a hotel versus an Airbnb (I'm more of an Airbnb girl, myself) but since we waited a little too late, all of the really great Airbnbs that we wanted had been scooped up. The hotel we found was perfection though! We stayed at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Resort and Spa, which was so beautiful, my words can't even do it justice! The resort is huge and has several pools, jacuzzis, a lazy river, restaurants, a golf course, a spa and so much more. You really don't even have to leave the resort if you don't want. The best part of booking Marriott is that they have a great rewards plan if you are a member, they even let you check-in early, if they have rooms available.

Of course, the weekend we decided to go was cloudy and a bit rainy, but we made the best of it! As I always tell you guys... I travel to eat (and so do my friends) so we literally ate our way through the city of Phoenix! We explored the city and made our first stop at the cutest little breakfast cafe called Vovomeena. They have a menu full of healthy options and even have a really fun coffee flight you can order with coffee they brew right on site. The flavors consisted of black and tan, vanilla cocoa and green tea mint. Yes GREEN TEA MINT, so if you're a coffee drinker like myself... you'll love this place.

We also heard about a really cool bar not too far from the hotel called Blue Martini. Apparently they have these in other cities, but I had never been to one. This place was everything I dreamed of and more. The martinis were on point and the food was perfect. We ordered just about everything on their happy hour menu, but my faves were the ahi tuna, lamb and lobster salad. They even have a live band that performs different types of music each night. So much fun!

A hike though Phoenix was planned for the trip but sadly, the rain put a damper on the plans. We heard that the best trails are Tom's Thumb and Freedom trail, if you want some off the beaten path hikes that everyone doesn't usually do! Our concierge also told us that visiting Sedona isn't hard to do while visiting Phoenix and has a lot of fun things to check out as well.

For dinner, we found an amazing restaurant called Different Pointe of View that sits atop of a mountain in the Pointe Hilton Tapatio. This place boasts beautiful views over Phoenix, an elaborate chef's table tasting menu and lobster bisque to die for. Since we missed the Women's March in LA that day, we celebrated friendship and women's rights over a delicious dinner there.

We researched some museums to check out and heard that we had to see  Phoenix Art Museum which has the Kelly Ellman Collection; the coolest collection of vintage and costume fashion. If you're a fashion lover, you'll really enjoy this exhibit! It's a pretty big museum, so give yourself some time to see the entire thing.

Before we left Phoenix a boozy brunch was in order! Buck and Rider was our place for this. OMG, this place has so much yummy fresh seafood and oysters AND 3 different types of mimosas to choose from for their bottomless selection. I had the California Avocado Toast with tomatoes and egg on top (go figure!) and we ordered a ton of oysters for the table so that we could each try a couple different types.

Overall, Phoenix was a super cute and fun place with a ton to do and so much more to EAT! lol I definitely recommend it for a group of friends or for you and your boo thing! We will definitely be returning on a more sunny weekend to explore more of the city and see what else it has to offer!
